Matthew 28 16.

2

:

That's where you're gonna be.

3

:

So in our game, right?

4

:

In our game, we had to, we had to

describe some things with just one word.

5

:

And I want you to think

of right now, think.

6

:

If I was gonna describe a

Christian with one word, how would

7

:

I describe someone who's saved?

8

:

How would I describe a

Christian in one word?

9

:

What would you think?

10

:

What would you say?

11

:

What comes to mind when you say, oh, how

would I describe a Christian in one word?

12

:

Well, I think that in to Knight's passage

we're gonna see what, at least Matthew,

13

:

and, and probably Jesus would say, if

he was gonna say one word to describe

14

:

a Christian, that word is disciple.

15

:

Disciple.

16

:

That's the word I think

that, that Jesus would use.

17

:

And that's the word that

Matthew for sure would use.

18

:

So if you don't know what it means

to be a disciple, or if you have a

19

:

wrong idea about being a disciple,

then you're probably doing the

20

:

whole Christian thing wrong.

21

:

If you don't know what, what it means

to, to be a disciple of Jesus, if you

22

:

don't know what discipleship is or

looks like, then you might be, you

23

:

might have a totally wrong idea of

what it's like to be a Christian and

24

:

what being a Christian is all about.

25

:

So tonight that's what we're gonna learn.

26

:

We're gonna learn that discipleship.

27

:

Is living all in for

King Jesus with his help.

28

:

The discipleship is living all

in for king Jesus with his help.

29

:

That's what Matthew and

Jesus are gonna tell us.

30

:

Tonight.

31

:

So look with me at your passage, Matthew

chapter 16, or chapter 28, verse 16.

32

:

So we're picking up right

after the resurrection.

33

:

Jesus is alive and the angel announces it,

and then the woman go tell the disciples.

34

:

And then, um, Jesus said, Hey, I'm

gonna meet you guys in Galilee.

35

:

Meet me in Galilee.

36

:

So verse 16.

37

:

Now the 11 disciples went

to Galilee, to the mountain,

38

:

which Jesus had directed them.

39

:

So this was the plan.

40

:

They're like, all right, let's do it.

41

:

And when they saw him, they worshiped him.

42

:

But some doubted.

43

:

So they see Jesus and they worship

him, but some of them aren't sure.

44

:

Some of them are either not sure if they

should worship him or not sure who he is.

45

:

We don't know exactly,

but some of them doubted.

46

:

Then verse 18, Jesus came and said

to them, all authority in heaven

47

:

and on earth has been given to me.

48

:

All sovereignty, all authority,

all power, all the rights

49

:

to rule is belongs to Jesus.

50

:

It's been given to Jesus

now as the resurrected king.

51

:

Therefore go therefore, and make disciples

of all nations, baptizing them in the

52

:

name of the Father and of the Son and of

the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe

53

:

or obey all that I have commanded you

and behold, look, I'm with you always.

54

:

To the end of the age, right?

55

:

Nice short passage for us.

56

:

I forgot to put up on the screen

for you, but that's our passage.

57

:

It all fits on one slide.

58

:

Isn't that crazy?

59

:

It all fits on one slide.

60

:

So Jesus, he meets the disciples,

some of them worship, and then

61

:

he gives them this announcement.

62

:

He says, look, all I have all authority

everywhere because of that, I want you to

63

:

go make disciples of everyone everywhere.

64

:

I want you to baptize them, and I want

you to teach them what I've commanded you.

65

:

By the way, I'm always gonna be

with you for the rest of history.

66

:

Now, the main, the main message that

Jesus is saying right is, is this section

67

:

here, it starts with all authority,

ends with to the end of the age.

68

:

He starts in a really interesting place.

69

:

Right?

70

:

If you were gonna send out

a group of people, right?

71

:

If you were gonna say, you know what,

I want you guys to go and tell people

72

:

about Jesus, what would you start with?

73

:

If you were gonna say, you know what?

74

:

We're gonna start with 11 people and

we're gonna go and try to change the world

75

:

and tell everyone about Jesus, what's

the first thing you would tell them?

76

:

Well, Jesus says, this is

what I'm gonna start with.

77

:

All authority in heaven and

on earth has been given to me.

78

:

Therefore go and make disciples.

79

:

So whenever you see it,

therefore in the Bible, you know

80

:

what you're supposed to ask.

81

:

What's therefore, what's the,

therefore, therefore, right?

82

:

Whenever you see it, therefore, in

the Bible, you gotta look backward.

83

:

So it, what it does is

it relates this to this.

84

:

So all authority therefore go, right.

85

:

That's what Jesus is saying.

86

:

You see that all authority.

87

:

It has been given to Jesus.

88

:

Therefore, I want you to do this thing.

89

:

This is a command that he's giving.

90

:

So discipleship actually

comes from Jesus' authority.

91

:

Discipleship comes from the

fact that Jesus is in charge.

92

:

That's where discipleship starts,

and that's our first point.

93

:

Tonight, discipleship is a

response to Jesus' authority.

94

:

Discipleship is based on

the authority of Jesus.

95

:

It comes from the fact that

Jesus is the king of kings.

96

:

The first thing I want you to

know about being a disciple of

97

:

Jesus, someone who follows Jesus.

98

:

Jesus has all authority, and

maybe you've heard that before.

99

:

You've heard that growing

up from your parents.

100

:

You've heard that in kids, men.

101

:

Maybe you've heard that Jesus has all

authority, but I want you to just think

102

:

about what that means about Jesus, right?

103

:

It means that Jesus has all

authority over every country.

104

:

So if Jesus, all authority of

every country, think about that.

105

:

Jesus could tell every country what to do.

106

:

Jesus could tell Russia what to do.

107

:

Jesus could tell he ran what to do.

108

:

Jesus could tell the US what to do.

109

:

Jesus could tell every single

world country, Hey, do that.

110

:

And he has the right to say that

and enforce that Jesus' authority

111

:

over every cell on earth, every

molecule, every disease, Jesus

112

:

can tell, every sickness, stop.

113

:

Jesus can do that.

114

:

Jesus has the authority to do that.

115

:

Jesus has authority over

every animal, right?

116

:

People talk about training their dogs.

117

:

Jesus authority over every animal.

118

:

He can tell every animal,

here's what I want you to do.

119

:

Go do it.

120

:

Jesus authority, over, over everything.

121

:

Right?

122

:

He's authority over every person.

123

:

Right?

124

:

Not just maybe.

125

:

Oh yeah.

126

:

And Jesus has authority over every person.

127

:

Cool.

128

:

No.

129

:

Jesus has authority

over, over every person.

130

:

Oh, Jesus has authority over you, over

what you do, what you think, what you

131

:

say, how you live, the decisions you

make, where you go to school, who you

132

:

date Jesus authority over Everything.

133

:

How you spend your time, what you watch.

134

:

Who you're friends with Jesus

authority over all of these things.

135

:

That's what it means when Jesus

says, all authority and discipleship

136

:

following Jesus is someone who

recognizes that and goes along with it.

137

:

They say, you know what?

138

:

That's right.

139

:

I agree with that and I'm

gonna follow what Jesus says.

140

:

Now, maybe you're someone who

doesn't think Jesus is all authority.

141

:

Does that change how

much authority Jesus has?

142

:

Does you thinking how much Jesus

authority has change anything about Jesus?

143

:

No.

144

:

Right.

145

:

Whether you like it or

not, Jesus is in charge.

146

:

One day, Jesus is gonna come

and set up his kingdom fully.

147

:

And at that point, you won't have the

freedom that you have now to say, uh,

148

:

I don't want anything to do with Jesus.

149

:

Or, uh, I kind of like Jesus,

but I'm gonna do whatever I want.

150

:

One day you're gonna run into

Jesus authority and Jesus will show

151

:

you I'm in charge of everything.

152

:

Jesus has all authority, but he

has all authority over everything

153

:

that you interact with, right?

154

:

Everything you think about all

the people that you see, all

155

:

the situations you're in, right?

156

:

Maybe you're, you're scared

of, of something happening.

157

:

Well, Jesus is in control of that, right?

158

:

And that's such a comfort

that you are following someone

159

:

who has all authority, right?

160

:

You're not just following

a, a nice teacher, right?

161

:

You're following someone who has authority

over every situation you're ever gonna

162

:

face, anything you're worried about.

163

:

You can say, you know what,

Jesus is in control of that.

164

:

Jesus can can work this

exactly the way he wants to.

165

:

If you're not sure how, how this

thing with your family is gonna play

166

:

out, or you're not sure how, how this

situation and your social life with your

167

:

friends is gonna work out or you don't

know how your health is, is gonna be.

168

:

Jesus has authority over that and

he's in control and you can trust him.

169

:

And that's such a freeing

thing for you to know.

170

:

Jesus has all authority, but also what

I want you to see is that because use is

171

:

all authority, he's actually giving this.

172

:

As a command, right?

173

:

He says, I have all authority.

174

:

Therefore, because of that,

do this make disciples.

175

:

The, the main command in this

passage is, is make disciples.

176

:

Um, that's the way Matthew

wrote it in his language.

177

:

This is a, a command, and this is a

less strong verb in Matthew's language.

178

:

If you want, you can learn Greek

with me and talk about that later.

179

:

But this is the main, this is

the main command of this passage.

180

:

Make disciples so it, it's a command.

181

:

It's not just a suggestion, right?

182

:

It's not just, oh, Jesus, you know,

was like, if, if you have time.

183

:

Make some disciples for me, or, oh, you

know, well, only the super important

184

:

Christians, I want you to make disciples.

185

:

Making disciples is a command

given to, to every, every person

186

:

who calls themself a Christian.

187

:

It's actually the reason

the church exists.

188

:

This is kind of like

Jesus' mission statement.

189

:

You ever seen like a mission statement

from a company like this company exists

190

:

to, or like a college you're applying to?

191

:

This college exists for this purpose.

192

:

I looked up some online

just that were fun.

193

:

So like Disney's, I don't even know

if this is true, this is what someone

194

:

said online, but imagine that is true.

195

:

Disney's mission statement

is to create happiness for

196

:

people of all ages everywhere.

197

:

So they're saying that's

why Disney exists, right?

198

:

That's what, that's what

Disney wants you to know.

199

:

This is their main job

is creating happiness.

200

:

That's what they're all about.

201

:

So if something doesn't create happiness,

guess what Disney's not gonna do?

202

:

They're not gonna do that.

203

:

Right?

204

:

They're all about creating

happiness, and they want you to

205

:

know that they're, they're creating

happiness for everyone, everywhere.

206

:

All types of people, right?

207

:

That's what Disney wants you to

know about happiness or like apple.

208

:

This one was fun.

209

:

Apple to challenge the status

quo to think differently.

210

:

Notice how like vague these are,

they have nothing to do with

211

:

like the industry they're in.

212

:

Disney didn't say anything about

movies or about amusement parks.

213

:

Apple didn't say anything

about like iPhones or whatever.

214

:

They didn't say like, to make

the best technology ever, right.

215

:

They said, we just want to be different.

216

:

So like that's Apple's mission statement.

217

:

I like the McDonald's mission statement,

just for fun to be the world's best

218

:

quick service restaurant experience

without an ice cream machine, I guess.

219

:

Um, but yeah, that was

McDonald's mission statement.

220

:

It's interesting, right, to see, like,

it tells you a lot about the company.

221

:

To know what, what do they think is the

most important thing that we're gonna do?

222

:

This is what we're all about.

223

:

Starbucks.

224

:

Inspire and nurture the human spirit.

225

:

This doesn't just sound like Starbucks,

to inspire and nurture the human

226

:

spirit, one person in one cup at a

time, so you can really tell a lot

227

:

about a company and what they value.

228

:

Or one more Coca-Cola to refresh the

world and inspire moments of optimism.

229

:

Is this, is this how you

feel when you drink a Coke?

230

:

Totally right.

231

:

But yeah, these are, these are

these company's mission statements.

232

:

These are these company's mission

statements, and what I want you

233

:

to see is that this is, this

is Jesus' mission statement.

234

:

This is the church's mission statement.

235

:

This, if you call yourself a

Christian or if, if your parents go

236

:

to church, this, this is the example.

237

:

Everything that Jesus wants from

his church as a, as a group, and

238

:

also everything that he wants

individually from you as a disciple,

239

:

your job is to make disciples.

240

:

That's your mission.

241

:

That's why you're here.

242

:

You're not here to have fun.

243

:

You're not here to, to do this.

244

:

You're not here to, to

make a bunch of money.

245

:

You're not here to, to make friends.

246

:

You're here to make disciples.

247

:

That's your, that's your

main mission statement.

248

:

And so just like these companies,

right, they wanna filter everything

249

:

through their mission statement, right?

250

:

If it doesn't do that.

251

:

We're not about it.

252

:

If it doesn't accomplish our mission,

we're not, we're not gonna do that.

253

:

So what Jesus is giving you is he's

giving you a filter to say, okay,

254

:

well, does this help me make disciples?

255

:

Well, if it doesn't, that's not my job.

256

:

That's not part of the mission, right?

257

:

Everything we do as a, as Christians, as a

disciples is about making more disciples.

258

:

It's like a filter that filters

out the stuff you don't need

259

:

and the stuff that you do need.

260

:

So Jesus is giving you and

the church your a, a mission.

261

:

So use the individual and

the church as a group, right?

262

:

That's why that a group of people

moved from California to Texas and

263

:

just out of the blue, seemingly, right?

264

:

Just because they, they wanted

to, because they wanted to do what

265

:

Jesus commissions or, or sends the

church to do to make more disciples.

266

:

So if you're a Christian, if you

call yourself a Christian in this

267

:

room, I want you to ask yourself, is

that what my life is really about?

268

:

Is my life really about making disciples?

269

:

Do I really think about, okay, why am

I on my sports team to make disciples?

270

:

Why am I at this school to make disciples?

271

:

Why am I with these friends?

272

:

Why am I with these family

members to make disciples?

273

:

Why am I gonna pick the

college I'm gonna go to?

274

:

Why am I gonna pick the

the schedule that I want?

275

:

Well, it's to make disciples.

276

:

That's what you need to filter

everything through, because it's a

277

:

command from the authoritative king.

278

:

This isn't the great suggestion, right?

279

:

This is the great commission.

280

:

This is a mission that, that

Jesus himself has given you.

281

:

If you call yourself a Christian,

that's what it means to follow.

282

:

Jesus.

283

:

It's not an optional suggestion.

284

:

It's not an age dependent

suggestion either.

285

:

You notice that Jesus didn't say, oh,

when you're older, make disciples.

286

:

Once you learn this much about the

Bible, make disciples once you graduate

287

:

from high school, make disciples.

288

:

Once you feel good about your

relationship with God, make disciples.

289

:

He didn't say any of that.

290

:

He just said, if you're, if you're

a Christian, make disciples.

291

:

What he said.

292

:

It's not a, it looks different maybe

in different seasons of your life.

293

:

You know, making disciples as a parent or

as a mom, or as a dad, or as a grandparent

294

:

or as a student, looks different.

295

:

But that's always gonna be your

mission, is to make disciples.

296

:

It's not conditional on anything.

297

:

Well, I don't feel like making disciples,

oh, I don't love those people very much.

298

:

Or, oh, whatever.

299

:

My life isn't going

the way I wanted it to.

300

:

I'm really stressed out right now.

301

:

Your job is still in those

moments to make disciples.

302

:

And yes, it'll look different,

but that's still your mission.

303

:

That's still why you are here.

304

:

So because Jesus has all authority,

discipleship making other

305

:

disciples is a response to Jesus.

306

:

Following Jesus is what

discipleship is all about.

307

:

And because Jesus is all authority,

you can trust him, right?

308

:

You can say, well, you know what?

309

:

Jesus is in control of everything.

310

:

So if he sends me to do something.

311

:

He probably is gonna help me do it.

312

:

It's probably gonna work out pretty well.

313

:

If the king of the universe

says, I want you to do this.

314

:

I'm asking you to do this.

315

:

I'm commanding you to do this.

316

:

The, the person with all

authority has sent you to do this.

317

:

You ever like run an errand

for someone really important?

318

:

Like at my middle school, there were

these office aides, you know, and they

319

:

come in with their pass and they can like

walk through and pull people outta class

320

:

and do this stuff because they're coming

with the authority of the principal.

321

:

You know what I mean?

322

:

Like they've got the authority of the,

the most important person on the campus.

323

:

They can just walk around.

324

:

They, they can go, you know,

became a supervisor, says, Hey,

325

:

what are you doing outta class?

326

:

They can just hold up their badge.

327

:

You know, like, look at me.

328

:

I'm an office aid.

329

:

I'm so cool.

330

:

I don't have to do anything

and just walk around.

331

:

Or they can do that, right?

332

:

Because they, they have the

authority of the person sending them.

333

:

If you're, if you're a disciple of Jesus,

Jesus is sending you out of his authority.

334

:

So if someone is telling you

don't make disciples, they're, you

335

:

can say, talk to my boss, right?

336

:

This is what he told me to do.

337

:

Talk to the principal.

338

:

He set me on this mission.

339

:

That's what I'm gonna do.

340

:

So you can also trust Jesus with

that and say, you know what?

341

:

This is what Jesus asked me to do,

so I'm gonna do it regardless of any

342

:

opposition that might come my way.

343

:

But because Jesus is all

authority, following him means

344

:

he lays claim to your entire.

345

:

Life.

346

:

Right?

347

:

Being a disciple is not just

a, what we talked about.

348

:

It's not just a, a seasonal job.

349

:

It's not just an optional suggestion.

350

:

It's, it's an authoritative

and wholehearted pursuit.

351

:

Look with me at verses 19 and 20.

352

:

So main command make disciples.

353

:

How do we do that?

354

:

Jesus.

355

:

Well, here's what it looks like.

356

:

It looks like going, it looks like

baptizing, and it looks like teaching.

357

:

That's what Jesus is saying.

358

:

Make disciples.

359

:

How do you wanna do that?

360

:

Well, this is what we're gonna do.

361

:

Right coach.

362

:

Jesus says, here's what we're gonna do.

363

:

We're gonna go, we're gonna

baptize and we're gonna teach.

364

:

That's how we make disciples.

365

:

Now, if you notice all of these things,

they, what they do is they, they take

366

:

hold of every aspect of your life.

367

:

These, these three activities involved

in disciple making, they creep into

368

:

every single part of your life.

369

:

You're not just making disciples.

370

:

Sometimes you're making disciples

all the time, and these things

371

:

are gonna reorient your life.

372

:

If you're really a disciple, if

you're really a follower of Jesus,

373

:

your life is gonna change thoroughly.

374

:

It's not just gonna change on Sundays.

375

:

It's not just gonna change on Wednesdays.

376

:

It's gonna change all the time.

377

:

So 0.2,

378

:

discipleship is a comprehensive

and committed process.

379

:

Comprehensive that means full, right?

380

:

All the way, like a

comprehensive final, right?

381

:

It's on.

382

:

It's like the two worst words.

383

:

In school.

384

:

Comprehensive exam, right?

385

:

That means it's a test on everything

you've learned that semester or that year.

386

:

Discipleship is comprehensive

and it's committed, right?

387

:

It's, it's something that that

takes time and it's something that

388

:

takes effort and it's something that

takes resolve and it's a process.

389

:

It's gradual, right?

390

:

It's not just something like, boom, I've

been discipled as much as I need to.

391

:

I made it.

392

:

It's a process.

393

:

It doesn't happen all in

an instant, but it also.

394

:

Takes, takes time.

395

:

And so is make, so making disciples

and being discipled are both a process.

396

:

They don't just, there's not

just one conversation, boom,

397

:

I discipled that person.

398

:

I'm done.

399

:

Or, oh, I talked to my leader

once and now I'm discipled.

400

:

That's not how it works.

401

:

Right.

402

:

Discipleship is a, is a process,

but it's very thorough and it

403

:

takes everything you've got.

404

:

Right.

405

:

And our main point, discipleship

is living all in for king Jesus.

406

:

So making disciples, as we saw,

involves going, baptizing and teaching.

407

:

Those are the three things

that Jesus wants you to know

408

:

about how to make disciples.

409

:

So this first one, here's what

we can learn about discipleship.

410

:

When we talk about going

discipleship interrupts and

411

:

alters the direction of your life.

412

:

Jesus saying, to make disciples,

you're gonna have to go, you're

413

:

gonna have to have a direction.

414

:

It's gonna look.

415

:

You're, you're on the move.

416

:

It's gonna look like you're

moving a certain way.

417

:

There's a, there's a

path I want you to go on.

418

:

Discipleship means going, so

it's gonna interrupt your life.

419

:

Remember when Jesus calls his

disciples, they're fishing in the boat.

420

:

Uh, Simon and Andrew are fishing in the

boat, or James and John are fishing in the

421

:

boat and Jesus says, Hey, come follow me.

422

:

So what do they do?

423

:

They leave their stuff

and they come follow him.

424

:

There's a, there's an altered direction.

425

:

There's something that

changed in their life.

426

:

They were interrupted by Jesus and

then they started following Jesus.

427

:

The best way I could describe

this is one of my favorite games.

428

:

You ever seen this one?

429

:

You ever seen this one from Game Pigeon?

430

:

It's the knockout game with the penguins.

431

:

So right when this, when this penguin

is coming and this penguin is coming,

432

:

what's gonna happen when they intersect?

433

:

They're gonna go out

different directions, right?

434

:

Their trajectory, the way they were

going is gonna look different, right?

435

:

This penguin is probably gonna end up

over here and this penguin is gonna

436

:

end over here and this guy's gonna win.

437

:

Right?

438

:

That's how it's gonna work.

439

:

So when this penguin gets bumped,

he's gonna go a different direction.

440

:

He thought he was gonna go this

way and he's gonna go this way.

441

:

That's kind of like what happens

when you become a Christian.

442

:

Your life changes the

direction of your life change.

443

:

That's why repentance is turning.

444

:

That's the, that's what the word means.

445

:

It means to turn.

446

:

The direction of your life for changes.

447

:

Second Corinthians five 15 says

that Christians stop living for

448

:

themselves and start living for God.

449

:

There's a direction change.

450

:

There's a trajectory that's changed.

451

:

You were going this way, and

then Jesus came and bumped

452

:

into you and changed your life.

453

:

He took you from death to life.

454

:

He took you from not his

people to his people.

455

:

He took you from not saved to saved.

456

:

And he changed the direction of your life.

457

:

He gave you new desires.

458

:

He gave you a new heart,

he gave you new habits.

459

:

He, he gave you all these things.

460

:

He gave you the Holy Spirit,

and it changes your life.

461

:

It sends you off a different way.

462

:

You, you start maybe, maybe you

do some of the same activities.

463

:

Maybe you still play the same sport.

464

:

Maybe you still live in the same place.

465

:

Maybe you still have the same friends,

but the direction of your life is

466

:

totally different now if you're

really a disciple, because now you're

467

:

not doing those things for you,

you're doing those things for God.

468

:

So the direction of your life Jesus

bumped into you and, and sense

469

:

you go on a different direction.

470

:

So discipleship alters the,

the trajectory, it alters

471

:

the path of your life, right?

472

:

My life is totally different

than what I thought it was gonna

473

:

be before I became a Christian.

474

:

And I'm sure all of your leaders

can say really similar things 'cause

475

:

their core fundamental desire change.

476

:

They, they who they are changed

what they wanted changed, their

477

:

priorities changed, and that sent

them in a different direction than

478

:

what they thought they were gonna do.

479

:

And so if you call yourself a

disciple, look for that in your life.

480

:

If you, if you wanna become a Christian,

expect that to happen when you get saved.

481

:

If you say you are a Christian

or you're not sure if you're

482

:

a Christian, look for that.

483

:

Look for, look for a a time period,

maybe not an exact day, but look for a

484

:

time period where Jesus bumped into you

and sent you flying in a different way.

485

:

And maybe it's gradual, it's a process.

486

:

But look for the different

direction, right?

487

:

Look for a change in direction.

488

:

I was living for myself, now I'm living.

489

:

For God.

490

:

That's what being a disciple is.

491

:

And also when you think about go, being

a disciple means you're sent, right?

492

:

You have a new mission.

493

:

Your mission before was live for myself.

494

:

Now your mission is make disciples.

495

:

So now you're, you're sent out to go

out of your way to do that, right?

496

:

If you never talk to anyone in your life,

you're never gonna make any disciples.

497

:

Christians are inherently outgoing people,

maybe not in personality, but in posture.

498

:

We, we go to where the people are.

499

:

We need to make people disciples.

500

:

So your mission has changed.

501

:

You are sent out by God with a new

purpose to do something for him.

502

:

That's what being a disciple is.

503

:

The second part we saw going.

504

:

The second part is being baptized.

505

:

Baptizing, baptism symbolizes.

506

:

You think about what is

baptism symbolize, right?

507

:

You're going down under the water and

you're coming up out of the water, right?

508

:

Um, baptism.

509

:

Yes.

510

:

This, Jesus is talking about

physically being dunked in the

511

:

water and coming back up, right?

512

:

Jesus is saying, you should baptize

your disciples that you make.

513

:

Right?

514

:

They should be baptized if you're,

if you call yourself a Christian,

515

:

you've never been baptized to obey

Jesus, you need to be baptized.

516

:

That's, that's one thing that Jesus's

saying, but the physical act of baptism

517

:

is supposed to be a symbol of something.

518

:

Just like the Lord's Supper

is a symbol of something.

519

:

Baptism is a symbol of something

and what it symbolizes.

520

:

You're different now.

521

:

Your identity has changed.

522

:

You were dead and now you're alive.

523

:

You were someone else and now

you're connected to Jesus.

524

:

And so you're different.

525

:

You have new life.

526

:

You're a new person.

527

:

That's what, um, Paul talks

about in, in Romans chapter

528

:

six, and he talks about baptism.

529

:

He's not talking about physical baptism.

530

:

He's talking about what happens to

you when you become a Christian.

531

:

You're different now, so

who you are is different.

532

:

Right.

533

:

The the closest thing I could think

of to like an identity change is.

534

:

Specifically, uh, when

ladies get married, right?

535

:

This kind of thing happens, right?

536

:

You become a different person, right?

537

:

You, you go from Thomas Elli to Azuma

in my lovely wife's case, right?

538

:

You become a, a different person, your

identity changes, and then you have to

539

:

do all this paperwork, and it's a mess,

and it's terrible, but it's awesome

540

:

because your identity changed, right?

541

:

So now, right?

542

:

We're not just, we're not just two

separate people in according to Jesus.

543

:

If you get married,

you're one flesh, right?

544

:

God brought you together.

545

:

God changed you, so now you're

fundamentally a different

546

:

person because you got married.

547

:

That's what happens when you

become a Christian, right?

548

:

When you become a Christian,

your identity changes.

549

:

Who you are changes.

550

:

Not just outwardly, not just your habits,

not just how you spend your time, not

551

:

just what you maybe do or how you look,

but who you are on the inside changes.

552

:

Everything that's core to who you are is

different when you become a Christian.

553

:

That's what baptism symbolizes

is, is an identity change.

554

:

It also means a new

relationship with God, right?

555

:

You, you're no longer apart from Christ.

556

:

You're in Christ baptizing the name of the

Father of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

557

:

Now you have a new relationship

with God before you didn't

558

:

have access to God, right?

559

:

You're a, you're a sinner.

560

:

You're separated from God,

but then when you're baptized,

561

:

you're baptized into Christ.

562

:

Which means you're,

you're placed into Christ.

563

:

You're connected to Christ.

564

:

And so now when God sees you, he

doesn't say you deserve judgment.

565

:

He says, Jesus paid for your sin.

566

:

So now I've adopted you and

I've welcomed you to my family.

567

:

So you have a new relationship with

God because of you're connected to

568

:

Jesus, you're baptized in Christ.

569

:

That's what that means.

570

:

You now have a new identity, but also

you have a new relationship with God.

571

:

You, you can call him Father, you

can talk to him like your father.

572

:

You have access to him through Jesus.

573

:

You have your sins taken away.

574

:

You have a new relationship with

God because of being a disciple.

575

:

So baptism symbolizes your new identity,

and that's part of being a disciple.

576

:

Being a disciple means

your identity is changed.

577

:

So if that's not you, then

you're not a disciple, right?

578

:

But if you are, you should see that.

579

:

You should see that in your life.

580

:

I'm not the person I used to be.

581

:

So making disciples involves

going, it involves baptizing

582

:

and it also involves teaching.

583

:

So discipleship means living Jesus way.

584

:

So baptism talks about identity.

585

:

So even though baptism or discipleship,

discipleship is more than a way

586

:

of life, it's more than just

external rule following and doing

587

:

different things than I used to do.

588

:

It's, it's discipleship is much

more comprehensive than that.

589

:

It changes everything about you, not

just your habits or your actions, but

590

:

it's not less than that either, right?

591

:

Being a disciple means, remember

what Jesus said, teaching them to

592

:

obey everything that I've commanded.

593

:

There's a, there's physical evidence

because you, you, your identity changes.

594

:

Jesus interrupted your life, your

identity changes, and now you start doing

595

:

the things that Jesus wants you to do.

596

:

The word disciple actually means learner.

597

:

So the, the word just means

a student, like a learner.

598

:

And so if you're a disciple,

you're who you are.

599

:

Is is a learner.

600

:

And, and what that means is your

posture as a disciple is always to grow.

601

:

It's always, oh, Jesus

is the, the teacher.

602

:

Jesus is, is the one I'm learning from.

603

:

That's what being a disciple is.

604

:

Your, your mission as a disciple.

605

:

Part of it is to, to do

everything that Jesus said.

606

:

So you're always gonna be growing,

you're always gonna be learning.

607

:

That's why we said in our

second point, it's a process.

608

:

Discipleship is a pro.

609

:

It's a lifelong process

of living Jesus' way.

610

:

You're never going to be done,

oh, I'm, I'm done being discipled.

611

:

So it's a, it's a process and there's

ups and downs that process, right?

612

:

Sometimes it takes a while

for you to learn things.

613

:

Just like in school.

614

:

It takes you for a while.

615

:

Sometimes there's certain

things you get right away.

616

:

There's some things that take you a

while to get, you have to practice them.

617

:

You have to think about them.

618

:

Your teacher has to explain it in a

cool way, and then you start getting it.

619

:

That happens with, with

disciples, with God.

620

:

You know, so maybe you're a Christian,

you're like, well, I see some changes.

621

:

I don't see another big change

that I, I really wanna grow in.

622

:

So that might take time.

623

:

You know, God works through slow process

sometimes, and so sometimes your, your

624

:

growth is gonna be slow learning, but you

always should be as a disciple, learning

625

:

to obey everything that Jesus said, and

that's also part of being a disciple.

626

:

He said, just teach them to obey

everything that I've commanded you.

627

:

Not just your favorite commands, not just

the ones you're good at, not just the

628

:

ones that the world applauds and says,

oh yeah, that's good, but everything.

629

:

So think about, am I someone who just

picks and chooses what Jesus says?

630

:

Like, well, I'll obey that and I won't do

that, or, I like it when I get to do these

631

:

things for Jesus, but I don't like it

when I get to do those things for Jesus.

632

:

I wanna serve at church this way.

633

:

I don't wanna serve at church that way.

634

:

Well, are you picking and choosing

what Jesus asked you to do?

635

:

Are you saying, Jesus, here I am.

636

:

Send me.

637

:

You get to decide how I follow you.

638

:

You don't get to decide

how you follow Jesus.

639

:

You're following Jesus on

his terms, not your terms.

640

:

You don't get to say, oh, well,

Jesus, I'll follow you this far,

641

:

but if I'm single for the rest of

my life, not gonna do it, I'm out.

642

:

You don't get to say, oh, Jesus, uh, I'll

follow you this way, but if all my friends

643

:

leave me, I'm out, or if I have to share

the gospel with people, then I'm out.

644

:

Or, oh, if, if you really

want me to believe that about

645

:

homosexuality, then I'm out.

646

:

Jesus wants you to obey

everything he's commanding.

647

:

This isn't Buffet Christianity.

648

:

You can't just pick, oh, well, I

like what the Bible says about that.

649

:

Don't like what it says about that.

650

:

It's comprehensive.

651

:

Everything that you see in God's word

is for you and it matters, and you can't

652

:

just pick and choose the parts you like.

653

:

Also, it's living Jesus' way, right?

654

:

Not just learning information about Jesus.

655

:

Discipleship isn't just gaining

information and facts like,

656

:

oh, I, I learned this and I

learned this and I learned this.

657

:

Right?

658

:

It's learning.

659

:

That translates into living.

660

:

It's living.

661

:

There's, there's action, there's feelings.

662

:

There's not just information

that you learned about Jesus.

663

:

And then lastly, throughout teaching,

Jesus is telling the disciples to teach.

664

:

Right?

665

:

So disciples are learners.

666

:

Yes, but they're also teachers.

667

:

Disciples are supposed

to make more disciples.

668

:

So if you are a Christian, you

should be thinking about how am

669

:

I going to disciple other people?

670

:

Maybe you are a new Christian, so there's

not much that you've learned that you

671

:

can pass on, but at some point you

should be thinking, oh, I need to pass

672

:

on my learning, my knowledge, my wisdom,

my love for Jesus to other people.

673

:

I had one guy, um.

674

:

One of the coolest guys I've ever met.

675

:

He was in a men's bible study group

that I was in, and he had a brain tumor.

676

:

Um, one of the coolest dude, just the

way he trusted God, the way he followed

677

:

Jesus through that was, was really cool.

678

:

But he gave me this illustration that

I've, I've never forgot since then.

679

:

He talked about the difference

between, um, he used roads, but I'm

680

:

using water 'cause it's more fun.

681

:

The difference between a cul-de-sac.

682

:

A thoroughfare, like right.

683

:

A road that just goes all the way through.

684

:

Or a road that's like a circle.

685

:

So water makes more sense.

686

:

'cause you guys don't even

know what thoroughfare is.

687

:

So you ever seen one of these

things, you ever seen one of

688

:

these standing water, right?

689

:

Where all the mosquitoes come from?

690

:

And for some reason they named

a city in Oklahoma after this.

691

:

But this is, this is still

water, right Standing.

692

:

Water standing.

693

:

Water's gross.

694

:

There's, there's nothing coming

in to, there's nothing, sorry.

695

:

There's nothing going out.

696

:

There might be water coming in.

697

:

There's rain that comes in.

698

:

Maybe they, there's water that comes

in, but it doesn't, it doesn't leave.

699

:

And it just sits there and

it gets real gross, right?

700

:

It, it, it ends up looking like this.

701

:

And then these people probably

have a million mosquito bites

702

:

and they can't use their pool.

703

:

It can really clean.

704

:

It's terrible, right?

705

:

But this kind of water, running

water is beautiful, right?

706

:

It flows, it's clean, it's great.

707

:

You can swim in it.

708

:

You could drink it.

709

:

If you're adventurous, you could do

all sorts of things with flowing water.

710

:

See, being a disciple, you want to

be this, you wanna be like this.

711

:

So when, when God shows you

things, when you learn things,

712

:

starting with the gospel, right,

the gospel's the best example.

713

:

You don't just keep

the gospel to yourself.

714

:

You're like, oh, I, I heard the gospel.

715

:

I responded great.

716

:

No, God wants you to

take it to other people.

717

:

He wants you to, to let it flow

through you to people around you.

718

:

He doesn't want you to just be

like, all right, cool, I got it.

719

:

Sweet.

720

:

He doesn't want you to do that.

721

:

He wants you to pass it on.

722

:

So if you're a Christian, you

at least know the gospel, right?

723

:

You've at least been saved.

724

:

You've heard the good news about

Jesus, you've responded to him.

725

:

You love Jesus.

726

:

You can at least pass that on.

727

:

Maybe you don't know very

much, and that's okay, right?

728

:

We all start somewhere.

729

:

Maybe you don't know very

much about the Bible.

730

:

Maybe you don't know

very much about Jesus.

731

:

Maybe you haven't been a Christian very

long, but there's still things that you

732

:

can pass on to other people, and if you're

a disciple, God expects you to do that.

733

:

He expects you to, to let what he

teaches you and what you've learned

734

:

flow through you to other people, right?

735

:

You don't wanna be gross standing water.

736

:

You wanna be nice, pretty flowing water.

737

:

So discipleship, there's three parts

going baptizing and teaching right now.

738

:

It might sound like so far

that Jesus asking a lot.

739

:

From his disciples, right?

740

:

He's telling, he's like,

I've all authority.

741

:

You gotta do these things for me.

742

:

You gotta go.

743

:

I'm gonna interrupt your life

and you're gonna do what I say.

744

:

You're gonna live for me.

745

:

I'm gonna change who you are.

746

:

You might think, well, Jesus is just, you

know, putting all these, these burdens

747

:

on me, asking me to do all this stuff.

748

:

Well, that's partly true, right?

749

:

Jesus has every right to tell you what

to do, and we don't like that sometimes.

750

:

But Jesus has every right to tell you

what you're supposed to do with your life.

751

:

Jesus has every right to tell you

what college you go to, what friends

752

:

you should have, who you should date.

753

:

Jesus has every right to

tell you all of those things.

754

:

What you do with your free

time, what videos you watch.

755

:

Jesus has every right to

tell you all of those things.

756

:

But he also is personally involved

in helping his disciples follow him.

757

:

Look with me at the beginning

and the end of our passage.

758

:

So verse 17, when the disciples

saw him, they saw Jesus, which

759

:

that would've been crazy, right?

760

:

Imagine like you, you saw this guy die.

761

:

Then now you're like, oh, there he is.

762

:

That's crazy, right?

763

:

So they saw him and they worshiped him.

764

:

Which by the way, I said this last

week, but if someone ever tells

765

:

you, Jesus never claimed to be God.

766

:

If Jesus wasn't God, you know what

He would've said right after this?

767

:

Stop.

768

:

Don't worship me.

769

:

Right?

770

:

But guess what?

771

:

He doesn't say anything about that.

772

:

So they worship Jesus, but some

of them doubt it, and we don't

773

:

know what they're doubting.

774

:

We don't know if they're

doubting, is this really Jesus?

775

:

Maybe they're far away.

776

:

They didn't recognize him.

777

:

Maybe they doubted that

he was really alive.

778

:

Maybe they really, they, maybe

they doubted that he was, God, we

779

:

don't know what they're doubting.

780

:

Um, but the word doubt comes

from like the word to be divided.

781

:

So like they're, they're not sure.

782

:

There, there's some hesitancy,

there's some, um, I don't

783

:

know, maybe some unbelief.

784

:

They're doubting.

785

:

And then Jesus came and said to

them, Jesus didn't say, oh, you're

786

:

doubting, you're a loser disciple.

787

:

I'm not using you.

788

:

Right.

789

:

She just didn't do that.

790

:

She didn't say, oh, well, you're

not good enough to follow me.

791

:

Jesus didn't say, oh,

well, you're doubting.

792

:

Well, I'm gonna ask other

people to do my work for me.

793

:

Jesus didn't say any of those things.

794

:

Jesus comes to them, right?

795

:

He came to them and said to

them what He said, right?

796

:

All authority has been given to

me, and then I'll be with you

797

:

always and give them mission.

798

:

Right?

799

:

So Jesus doesn't say, well,

once you stop doubting, come

800

:

follow me and make disciples.

801

:

He doesn't say that.

802

:

He goes to them and says,

here's what I want you to do.

803

:

He enters into their, their real

imperfect Christian life and

804

:

says, I have a mission for you.

805

:

But he doesn't just give them a mission.

806

:

He gives them everything they

need to do the mission, right?

807

:

We talk about all authority.

808

:

Jesus has all authority.

809

:

So if the disciples are ever scared

or not sure if they can say, well,

810

:

the, the guy who's in charge of

the world sent me, so if you mess

811

:

with me, you're messing with him.

812

:

Right?

813

:

So he gives them courage and

he also gives them comfort.

814

:

So I want you to see that discipleship

is a real relationship with a

815

:

real Jesus, who's really with you.

816

:

If you're following Jesus,

he's really with you.

817

:

He's not just watching you like, oh,

well, when that person starts sitting

818

:

less, then I'll, then I'll use them.

819

:

Or, oh, when that person gets their act

together or learns their learns more

820

:

of their Bible, then I'll be with them,

and then I'll ask them to serve me.

821

:

Jesus comes to these disciples

who, who trust him, and he says.

822

:

I'm gonna help you.

823

:

I'm gonna help you do exactly

what I just asked you to do.

824

:

So 0.3,

825

:

discipleship is a relationship

with a real person.

826

:

Discipleship isn't just

doing things for Jesus.

827

:

It's not just hearing things.

828

:

Jesus says, it's not just working

really hard to make Jesus happy.

829

:

Jesus is a real person and he really

helps his disciples follow him.

830

:

And maybe it's hard for you to wrap

your mind around that Jesus is a

831

:

real person and I get it right.

832

:

Maybe you're like, man, I wish

I could have been one of those

833

:

disciples and actually seen Jesus

and talked with him and touched him.

834

:

But if Jesus wanted you to have that

experience, if he thought that experience

835

:

was good for you, he would still be here.

836

:

If, if you're saying, oh, I really

wish I could have seen Jesus.

837

:

Why did Jesus leave?

838

:

Jesus, the smartest guy who ever lived

thought it was a good idea to give you

839

:

the Holy Spirit instead of staying here.

840

:

Right?

841

:

Imagine that.

842

:

Imagine if Jesus was the pastor

of some church in Austin.

843

:

That would be really cool, right?

844

:

If Jesus was the pastor of a church,

everyone could go to that church.

845

:

Like you could meet Jesus.

846

:

You could hear Jesus preach.

847

:

You could shake his hand after service

and tell him, great sermon, Jesus.

848

:

And then he'd be like, we'll see.

849

:

No, I'm just kidding.

850

:

He wouldn't say that.

851

:

Um, no, but Jesus.

852

:

What if he was the pastor of a church?

853

:

You know, what if he was

like your, I don't know.

854

:

What if Jesus was your worship leader?

855

:

Right?

856

:

What if Jesus was your SM group leader?

857

:

What if Jesus was one of your parents?

858

:

Right?

859

:

Like that would, you'd think

that would be awesome, right?

860

:

What if Jesus was alive and he was here?

861

:

But Jesus, in all of his wisdom said,

you know, it's actually better than that.

862

:

I'm gonna give you the Holy Spirit,

my presence with you, with every

863

:

Christian, everywhere for all time.

864

:

Jesus said, that's better.

865

:

I heard one pastor.

866

:

Put it this way.

867

:

The Holy Spirit in you is better

than Jesus with you in the sense of

868

:

like physically with you next to you.

869

:

The Holy Spirit inside you is

better than Jesus beside you.

870

:

That's the way he put it.

871

:

That sounds a lot better.

872

:

The Holy Spirit inside you is better

than Jesus beside you, because if

873

:

Jesus wanted you to have him here

sticking around with him, he would.

874

:

And if he thought that was

better for you, he would do that.

875

:

But instead he says.

876

:

I'm gonna be with you

through the Holy Spirit.

877

:

So Jesus is a real person,

but he's really with you.

878

:

And the reason he is is because

he wants to help you follow him.

879

:

He's not just sitting there waiting

for you to get your act together so he,

880

:

you can follow him better next week.

881

:

He's with you helping you do all the

things that that you want to do for him.

882

:

Has anyone here ever been in

like a flipped classroom class?

883

:

Those things where what they do is

like the, you do the homework in class

884

:

and then the teacher, like you watch

the videos like outside of class.

885

:

It's like the opposites.

886

:

Normally you do the homework at home,

it's a place called the homework,

887

:

and then you do the lectures in

class when you're sitting here.

888

:

So, and one of my college

classes was a flipped classroom.

889

:

So what we did is we'd watch these

videos like Monday during the

890

:

day at home or whatever, and then

Tuesday we would come to class.

891

:

We would do the work together.

892

:

So we had this, it was Greek, so

we, we'd do these like translations

893

:

and all this stuff together.

894

:

We'd work through all the

problems and, and ask questions.

895

:

And, and our teacher, what he would

do is he, he we, he taught us through

896

:

the video and then he taught us

more by working with us on things.

897

:

He worked through all the, the

challenges and he was there

898

:

so we could ask questions.

899

:

'cause what usually happens in these

type of classes, like think about it,

900

:

think about this with math, right?

901

:

Imagine your math class, okay?

902

:

Imagine, I'm sure you've

been in this situation.

903

:

You get your math lecture, right?

904

:

You, you do the textbook, whatever,

and the teacher does like the super

905

:

easy, like obvious problems in class

and you go home and you're doing the

906

:

math homework and you're like, this

is nothing like what the teacher said.

907

:

This is nothing like what

happened on the board.

908

:

What is going on?

909

:

Why is this the way it is?

910

:

Right?

911

:

That that's what usually

happens in math class.

912

:

So my brother had one

of these math classes.

913

:

It was a flip classroom.

914

:

They would watch like the videos

of the lecture and the textbook on

915

:

their own and read the textbook on

their own and then come to class.

916

:

And then the teacher would do

like the hard problems with them

917

:

and they would work together.

918

:

So they did the work, but the

teacher would be there to help.

919

:

He'd there to ask.

920

:

They could ask him questions,

he'd show 'em how to do things.

921

:

When they ran into trouble, they could,

they could say, Hey, you know, Mr.

922

:

So and So, please help me.

923

:

This doesn't make sense to me.

924

:

'cause you explain that to me.

925

:

Christianity is kinda like a flipped

classroom when you think about it.

926

:

Being a disciple is kinda like

a flipped classroom because.

927

:

Jesus didn't just be like,

okay, here's the easy stuff.

928

:

Figure out the rest.

929

:

Right?

930

:

Here's, here's the easy example problem

on the board in the Bible, and then you

931

:

go figure it out the rest on your own.

932

:

Jesus, I'm with you always.

933

:

Every day.

934

:

That's what that word means.

935

:

It means all the days always.

936

:

He's there to help you follow him.

937

:

He's there to help you work through

all the problems, all the difficulties

938

:

that come with being a disciple.

939

:

He's not like, oh, well, sorry,

you're on your own, right?

940

:

Oh, you're scared to share

the gospel with that person.

941

:

Sucks to be you.

942

:

Jesus doesn't say that like, oh man,

your situation at home is really hard.

943

:

Well come back next week for the

lecture on how to do stuff at home.

944

:

Like, no, Jesus is with

you in that situation.

945

:

He's with you in your difficulties,

in your trials, in your doubt.

946

:

Jesus is there.

947

:

He's there to help you follow him.

948

:

He's not distant, far off waiting for

you to be better before he helps you.

949

:

He's with you to help you.

950

:

Jesus is involved in

your discipleship and.

951

:

Something you may not have ever thought

about, but Jesus cares more about your

952

:

relationship with him than you do.

953

:

Have you ever thought about that before?

954

:

Jesus cares more about you

than you care about you.

955

:

Jesus loves you more than you love you.

956

:

Isn't that crazy?

957

:

Jesus loves you.

958

:

Jesus wants what's best

for you more than you want.

959

:

What's best for you?

960

:

See, we sin and we do things

that aren't good for us because

961

:

we think we want them right?

962

:

And then Jesus in his love and in

his wisdom says, you know what?

963

:

That's not gonna be good for you.

964

:

I don't want you to do that.

965

:

So Jesus cares more about

you than you care about you.

966

:

And so that frees you to trust him.

967

:

Say, you know what?

968

:

I don't just trust that

Jesus, you have all authority.

969

:

I trust that you love me and you want

my best for me, and you care about me.

970

:

So if you're having trouble following

Jesus, you can always say, you know what?

971

:

I can trust Jesus.

972

:

'cause he loves me.

973

:

He's with me.

974

:

He promised to be with me.

975

:

He promised to help me.

976

:

He didn't just gimme a bunch of

things to do and say, all right,

977

:

come back when you're done.

978

:

He said, no, I'll go with you.

979

:

I'll go help you do the things that

I'm calling you to do so you can

980

:

always trust him that his way is best.

981

:

You can always trust him to equip

you and empower you with whatever

982

:

situation you're in, right?

983

:

Whatever difficulty you're faced,

whatever trial you're faced, whatever

984

:

emotions you're working through, whatever

circumstances that aren't going your way,

985

:

you can trust that Jesus is with you.

986

:

As you follow him, he gives you

everything you need to follow him

987

:

in that situation, because he gives

you himself, he says, I'm with you.

988

:

So discipleship is living all

in for king Jesus with his help.

989

:

It's a, it's a lot of work.

990

:

It's a whole life commitment.

991

:

It's a lifelong pursuit of closeness with

Jesus and making more disciples for Jesus.

992

:

But he's the king with all authority.

993

:

He's in control of everything.

994

:

So he has every right to ask you

to do things, but also, you know,

995

:

he has all the power to help you,

and he promises to be with you.

996

:

He promises to help you follow him.

997

:

So let's pray and we'll talk

about that more in small groups.

998

:

God, thank you that you don't

want us to be on our own, that

999

:

you promise to be with us.

:

00:43:11,390 --> 00:43:16,250

I know it's hard to believe that sometimes

we can't see you, we can't touch you.

:

00:43:16,910 --> 00:43:20,900

I pray that right now you help us to be

comforted by the fact that you are with

:

00:43:20,900 --> 00:43:25,100

us, that you never don't do anything.

:

00:43:25,100 --> 00:43:25,400

You say.

:

00:43:25,400 --> 00:43:31,279

You always keep your promises, you, you're

reliable, and I pray that you comfort

:

00:43:31,279 --> 00:43:32,450

us by the fact that you're with us.

:

00:43:32,750 --> 00:43:38,690

And I pray for students here who aren't

disciples who haven't followed you, that

:

00:43:38,720 --> 00:43:41,570

they would do that even tonight, but

they would say, I'm, I'm done living

:

00:43:41,570 --> 00:43:45,860

for myself and chasing things that are

bad for me, and I want to trust you.

:

00:43:46,299 --> 00:43:47,600

So I pray that you help 'em to do that.

:

00:43:48,019 --> 00:43:51,410

Um, I pray that they would trust you to

take away their sin and trust you, um,

:

00:43:51,499 --> 00:43:58,580

to take them, um, on a, a, a journey

to endless joy with you forever.

:

00:43:59,059 --> 00:44:00,200

Help us to be focused in small groups.

:

00:44:00,200 --> 00:44:02,299

Help us to be respectful

and kind to each other.

:

00:44:02,479 --> 00:44:05,779

Help us to be honest and help us to leave

here loving you more than when we came.

:

00:44:05,899 --> 00:44:06,740

We pray this in Jesus name.

:

00:44:07,189 --> 00:44:07,490

Amen.
